Before I went sugar-free, I enjoyed my final treat on the appropriately named Fat Tuesday:

| Yogurtini Mint and Cookies-n-Cream Fro-Yo with Grasshoppers, Oreos, and Chocolae sauce...so I splurged a little.... |
It has only been two days, but I made a few observations.
1. When I don't eat candy and sweets, I actually snack less OVERALL. I didn't realize how many times I stopped by the candy dish in the office or grabbed for a cookie just because they were available. All that stuff was just extra, unnecessary junk going into my body!
2. It is easier (at least for me) to go cold turkey. Some people have said I should do something like one treat each day or have a binge day each week where I have the freedom to junk until I kill over in a sugar coma. I said no to both of these ideas because I know exactly what would happen if I went this route. When I mess up a day on my diet, I tend to go overboard and consider the whole day a waste and commence to eat however I like for the reminder of my waking hours. I know if I allowed myself one sweet, I would soon allow two, then three...then I would forgo the whole plan. Why allow even one? I don't need that extra junk anyway. We had a "Donut Breakfast" for the students on Thursday, and, because I wasn't allowing even one sweet, I feel it was easier for me to avoid a the whole fatty fiasco.
I want to start a food journal like the one TRI-James suggested. I would be interested to see exactly what I DO eat. I just need to get me a cute little pocket-sized notepad. Or better yet, does anyone know if there's an app for that?

Nice job! There is an app for that, but I haven't used it. I'm using Sparkpeople.com right now to log food/exercise.
ReplyDeleteI use the app for Sparkpeople too! It's super easy but when you make something you need to add it to your favorites!
ReplyDeleteTwo days here too...finding I crave something sweet after meals...trying to distract myself from eating by doing something different until it fades.
Nice! I find that abstaining altogether is much easier than having "just one" too. Just one usually leaves me wanting more!
ReplyDeleteI have been using http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ lately. I used to be a big fitday fan but they do not have an app.
ReplyDeleteIt is easy to create meals. That makes it really quick.
Cold turkey is the way to go!
ReplyDeleteI like fitnesspal, cause i can use it online or on my iphone
ReplyDeleteI use MyFitnessPal as well and it works great. I'm with you in that I need to do things cold turkey as well! Great job!
ReplyDeleteI used to track my food intake and it is really effective. I think there is an app called "Loose It" where you can keep track of calories and nutrition value.
ReplyDeleteI should attempt to go sugar-free again. I keep getting dreams where I eat all types of junks and shovel it in my face. I just need to set a new start time when I ready.
